Dear Sirs
New Series of Loss Prevention Placards – Collision Regulations
No seafarer can become a bridge watchkeeping officer until they have demonstrated that they are fully conversant with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. However, collisions continue to occur, often as a result of one or more simple errors.
In order to re-familiarise bridge watchkeeping officers with the requirements, the Loss Prevention department has produced the first in a new series of collision regulation placards. Each placard focuses on a particular rule and shows two different scenarios illustrating how the requirements should be applied in certain situations. The full text of the rule is included for easy reference and a cautionary reminder appears at the bottom.
The first two placards in the series cover:
- Rule 5 – Look-out
- Rule 6 – Safe Speed
The placards are encapsulated in plastic to enhance and protect them, making them ideal for posting on the bridge.
Members will be sent complimentary sets of both placards and may obtain additional copies by contacting the Loss Prevention department. Alternatively, the placards may be downloaded in PDF format from the Club’s website.
The series will be expanded in due course.
Yours faithfully
