WISTA Hellas November Member’s Gathering
West Hellas were very pleased to host the WISTA Hellas November Member’s Gathering which was themed: Seafarers Wellbeing: Mental Health & Gender
West organised a presentation by Aliki Gotsi, Claims Manager. A very lively panel discussion was moderated by Gina Panayiotou, ESG Manager, with panellists from across the industry: Andromachi Demetriou (Marine Officer, Stena Lines), Emma Forbes-Gearey (Loss Prevention Officer), Maria Dragoumerli (Country Manager, ABL) and Sara Jones (Managing Director, Shipserve Greece).
West Open House (Santiago)
West’s Americas Team hosted an open house drinks reception last week in Santiago, Chile. They were delighted to be joined by Members, brokers, lawyers and correspondents for an enjoyable wine tasting at Les Dix Vins, Las Condes, after work.
Officers’ Conference 2023 (Manila)
Eugene Cheng, Senior Claims Manager in our Singapore office, recently gave a presentation on common P&I claims at the Officers’ Conference 2023 in Manila, Philippines.
The event was organised by V. Ships and Belships Management Singapore. Eugene was pleased to share insights and experiences to help raise awareness on precautionary actions that crew can take to prevent an escalation of P&I claims. He enjoyed interacting with crew and members’ representatives, and would like to thank everyone who attended.
5th International maritime Law Conference
Tony Paulson (Head of Asia) and Xuanlun Cai (Regional Head of Underwriting) recently spoke at the 5th International Maritime Law Conference on Free Trade Ports (Zones).
Tony Paulson introduced various international conventions on pollution and the insurance cover provided by Clubs in response oil spills. Whilst, XuanLun Cai spoke about the operation of P&I business in Hong Kong specifically.
Anglo-Eastern Ship Management Visit (Mumbai)
We were delighted to support our Member Anglo-Eastern Ship Management recently with the provision of training on P&I Clubs at their dedicated Maritime Training Centre in Mumbai.
Our Head of Claims (European Team) Paul Kaye and Deputy Head of Defence Claims and Claims Manager Gary Beale were given a tour of the facility before addressing aspiring cadets on the history and structure of P&I as well as the primary risks insured by Clubs to help inform the cadets’ life at sea.
There was also the opportunity to plant a tree in recognition of the occasion!
Singapore Cocktail Reception
Our office in Singapore recently hosted a Cocktail Reception at The Lantern, Fullerton Bay Hotel for Members, brokers and business partners.
Group CEO, Tom Bowsher, was in town concluding a three-week trip visiting the Club’s membership and partners in the region.
Defence short course (Singapore)
Thank you to everyone who attended our inaugural "Defence short course" in Singapore over two days on 25 and 26 October. In total 28 delegates from all over Asia attended!

The Seamen's Church Institute’s Mountain challenge (Vermont)
Well done to Paul Barnes, Alton Peralta and Patrick J. McNamara for finishing/surviving the The Seamen's Church Institute’s Mountain challenge!

So far they have raised an impressive $1,275 for the Seamen’s Church Institute, which provides vessel visits, hospitality, advocacy, and education on behalf of the World’s seafarers.
The challenge involved a 2-day long 20+ mile hike and canoeing endurance race, ascending 3000 ft a day in the pouring rain up Mount Snow in Vermont.
