CIMAC – a global association promoting the development of ship propulsion, train drive and power generation – has published a guideline on a new edition of the marine bunker quality standard ISO 8217:2024 that was released on the 30th of May 2024.

The document provides guidance on the changes made in ISO 8217:2024 specification and highlights the importance of the current version of the standard for the marine fuel users and buyers. While acknowledging that fuels complying with the new quality standard may not be available in some areas, the FAQ document emphasises the significance of using the 2024 edition as it reflects the most up-to-date information on fuel formulations, test methods and limits, and introduces standard requirements for biofuels.

The Club published a news article in anticipation of the ISO 8217:2024 release, outlining the changes in the specification. CIMAC WG7 Fuels Guideline - ISO 8217:2024 – FAQ delves deeper into the subject and provides a multifaceted overview of questions and answers about the new standard.
