Piracy Update – Best Management Practices (Version 3)

Following further consultation with industry, the third edition of  "Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy off the Coast of Somalia and in the Arabian Sea Area” (BMP3) has now been published. The amendments were made with the involvement and support of the International Group of P&I Clubs.

BMP3 has been produced in a clearer format and the contents have been updated to include:

• An expansion of the piracy high risk area which is now bounded by Suez to the north, 10°S and 78°E in response to the widened geographical spread of attacks
• Further advice on the use of ship protection measures
• A copy of the UKMTO position reporting form
• A new guidance section for vessels engaged in fishing in the high risk area
