
Financial Controller - Job Description
The Financial Controller will oversee financial and accounting operations across multiple countries. Reporting to the Deputy Finance Director, the Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and budgetary control. This position is ideal for a professional with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of accounting principles and financial management.
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and regulatory returns in compliance with statutory requirements (IFRS / HK RBC / Lux GAAP).
- Lead quarterly and annual financial close processes.
- Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue growth.
- Develop management reports and dashboards to support decision-making.
- Liaising with external tax accountants to ensure timely and accurate submission of corporate tax returns in all applicable jurisdictions.
- Manage the preparation and submission process of all indirect tax returns (VAT / IPT / FET)
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Collaborate with the Deputy Finance Director to develop annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor and report on budgetary performance, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Recommend corrective actions for variances and propose cost-control measures.
Internal Controls and Compliance
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee audit processes and liaise with external auditors to ensure successful audits in all jurisdictions.
Team Leadership and Development
- Supervise and mentor finance team members, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Provide training and development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Carry out timely performance management of direct reports within the team, identifying objectives to drive continuous improvement.
- Evaluate and improve financial systems and processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Lead initiatives for the adoption and integration of new financial technologies and tools.
Strategic Support
- Assist the Deputy Finance Director in formulating and implementing financial strategies to achieve organisational goals.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business initiatives and risk management.
Qualifications and Skills
- Professionally qualified accountant (ICAEW / ACCA / CIMA)
- Extensive experience in professional accounting or auditing
- Experience in leading financial teams and overseeing financial control and reporting activities
- Strong knowledge of accountancy and finance best practices
- Advance level of MS Excel
- Good communication skills
