Nicola graduated in law from Oxford University and practised as a barrister before joining the West of England in 1994. Nicola manages the Club’s Defence claims, reporting to the Class 2 Claims' Committee of the Club’s shipowners’ Board, monitoring legal developments and Defence-related topics and handling some of the Club’s larger Defence claims. Nicola also manages the Club’s relationship with its preferred legal suppliers and assists in marketing the Club’s Defence cover.

Nicola is a member of the LMAA’s Supporting Members Liaison Committee, a Council Member of the London Shipping Law Centre and has participated in a BIMCO Documentary Working Group.
